"EER" vs "SEER"

EER and SEER are both scores that tell you how well an air conditioner saves energy. EER checks how the machine works on one very hot day. SEER checks how it works over the whole summer as the weather gets warmer and cooler. You want to look at the EER score if you live somewhere that stays super hot all the time. If your summer weather changes from warm to hot, the SEER score is the best one to use.

What is "EER" all about?

EER stands for Energy Efficiency Ratio, which is a rating used to measure a room air conditioner's operating efficiency.

 

To calculate a unit's EER, you divide its cooling capacity (measured in BTU/Hr.) by the amount of electric power it consumes (measured in watts). Essentially, this ratio tells you how cost-effective the unit will be to run. The higher the EER, the more cooling you get for your money, resulting in lower operating costs when compared to other units with a similar cooling capacity.

 

You can find the EER for each specific model clearly marked on its yellow "EnergyGuide" hang tag.
